Jack Chick is more than a crackpot...

...he's an EVIL manipulative crackpot.

If you don't know who this guy is, he (ostensibly) draws comics about how Super Shiny Death Jesus will throw you in hell if you don't believe in Him. They're famous for being over the top and unbelievable to reasonable folks, but these tracts have actually literally scared the shit out of some weak-minded people and gotten them to convert. I read them sometimes for the lulz.

Anyway, today I notice this:

Last Rites

Pay attention to the panel where Super Shiny Death Jesus says "I am the ONLY One who can forgive sins." There's a quote from the Bible there, Mark 2:7, that Chick uses to advance his point. Oh shit, only God can forgive sins!

Except... well, read for yourself. That line was actually spoken by a Jewish scribe to try to discredit Jesus.

Which means either Jack Chick doesn't KNOW the Bible... or he's handpicking verses and quoting them out of context to advance his agenda of scaring people into "being saved".

This pisses me off. Hard.

"I'm not beautiful."

My mother would probably say that.

I guess it's true she lacks some of the graces of feminine beauty that this culture values. But none of that really matters because when I look at her, I see a powerful woman that kicks ass and will not back down when she sees something she believes in being violated.

Nobody knows that more than my brother, who's studying for the Air Force right now. He's had endless arguments with her, and he thinks part of the reason he's gone is because of that.

It's... just not really true.

My mom's a warrior and an inspiration. Perhaps, someday, I can pick up on that, and stop saying about myself, "I'm not beautiful". Okay, maybe I won't go that far, but I'm certainly done believing people that say I'm ugly.
